Cassandra Brown was shot and killed June 13 on Grothe Street. Her family believes she may have been targeted for testifying in a trial last year.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On Saturday, relatives and friends bid farewell to Cassandra Brown, who was tragically shot and killed outside a residence on June 13. She was remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

“Cassandra we gonna miss you,” Brown’s cousin said. “We love you.”

“This is one of the hardest days of my life,” said Calvin Brown, Cassandra’s son.

“She had a feisty spirit, always expressed her opinions, and was unapologetic about whose feelings were affected,” her younger brother recalled. “Although she was outspoken, the one undeniable thing about her was the love she carried in her heart.”

“There’s gold and silver, but no bond compares to Cassandra’s friendship,” shared a friend of 40 years. “Hearing she’s no longer with us is heartbreaking, but we find solace knowing she’s been called to her eternal home.”

The 66-year-old was shot and killed nearly two weeks ago on Grothe Street. Brown’s family believes she was targeted for testifying in a trial last year.

In their time of bereavement, Brown’s family is leaning heavily on their faith.

“There’s a lot of hurt, a lot of anger about the situation,” Calvin said. “Please no one take this matter into your own hands.”

As they keep Brown’s legacy alive, one final time, they shower Cassandra with the same love she showed everyone else.

“You’re here because you love her,” Rev. Roscoe McKinney II said.

“Whatever you was going through, whatever was in her voice shifted and caused you to have a good time in spite of what you were going through,” Bishop Dejuan Bell Sr. said.

“No one will ever be able to shut me up about my momma. I cried for her then, and I’m going to keep crying,” Calvin added.

Still, no arrests have been made.

Authorities are asking anyone with more information about Cassandra death to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500 or First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-tips.
