David McKeown, 47, is facing 25 charges for possession of child sexual abuse material.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A teacher from Volusia County is facing accusations of generating child sexual abuse images of his students using AI technology, and he is currently detained without the option of bail, as per the Holly Hill Police Department.

David McKeown, 47, is facing 25 felony charges for possession of child sexual abuse material, his arrest affidavit states.

The investigation began with an anonymous tip-off to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which warned of a Discord user possessing inappropriate child images. Authorities traced the suspect, McKeown, through the phone number and IP address linked to the offending account, according to the report.

Investigators said McKeown had used pictures of students to create AI-generated child sexual abuse images.

McKeown was a sixth-grade teacher at UBIC Academy and has since been fired from the school.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the serious allegations against him. Our employment relationship with David McKeown has been terminated, and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement,” stated Don Ross, Chair of the UBIC Academy School Board, in a message to parents.

McKeown is slated to be formally charged on July 15.

Anyone with information pertinent to this investigation should immediately contact Police Chief Byron K. Williams at 386-248-9475
