A British father, Sean Jefferson, was caught on video complaining about his handcuffs being too tight during his arrest for the brutal killing of his newborn daughter. His complaints have come to light following his conviction for the March 2022 murder of his 5-week-old daughter, Darcy-Leigh Jefferson, as reported by Birmingham Live.
The footage shows Jefferson, aged 35, at his home in Bruntwood, England, expressing dissatisfaction with his treatment during the arrest. This comes in stark contrast to the horrific nature of his crime, as his daughter succumbed to severe head injuries just two days after being admitted to the hospital.
In the video, Jefferson can be heard complaining about the handcuffs, saying, “That’s a bit tight, that is, mate. That’s very tight. Can you please loosen it?” His complaints highlight a sense of arrogance, given the circumstances of his arrest.
Despite being advised to remain calm, Jefferson continued to protest, suggesting that his rights were being violated. His demeanor appeared unfazed by the serious charges he faced.
He insisted on filing a complaint, stating, “I’m putting in a complaint about you. Simple, done,” while demanding the officer’s name and badge number, claiming, “You’re abusing your rights now, mate. Simple.”
“I’m putting in a complaint about you. Simple, done,” Jefferson moaned at the officer. “I want your name and badge number. You’re abusing your rights now, mate. Simple.”
“You’re squeezing them, geezer,” he added, using a UK slang term similar to calling someone “dude.”
The father had called an ambulance a day earlier to report that little Darcy-Leigh — who he had been abusing throughout her short life — was unresponsive at the family’s home.
She died two days later from the head injury.
Doctors determined the newborn had sustained 47 rib fractures in her short five weeks of life. Both her legs were also fractured.
Jefferson was convicted by a jury on Monday of murder, causing/allowing the death of a child and grievous bodily harm with intent.
The girl’s mother, Amy Leigh Clark, 34, was also found guilty of causing/allowing the death of a child.
“Darcy was violently abused and murdered by her father. Her mother allowed her death. These were the people who should have loved and cared for her,” Detective Chief Inspector Ian Fitzgerald said in a statement.
“It was despicable behavior against a defenseless child.”
Both Jefferson and Clark are due to be sentenced at Stafford Crown Court at a later date.
