A judge has ruled to keep the owner of a suburban ice cream shop in custody while he awaits trial for child pornography and unauthorized recording charges.

The accused, 58-year-old Steven Weisberg from Buffalo Grove, allegedly set up a hidden camera to surreptitiously film women and girls at his Addison ice cream establishment.

Authorities report that in early August, they were alerted by a tip-off about a suspicious fake electrical outlet wall fixture in the restroom of Flavor Frenzy located at 48 West Lake Street.

Upon investigation, an undercover officer noticed what appeared to be an outlet with a small black lens inside one of the receptacles, strategically positioned to record areas of the restroom, including the urinal.

Officers used a search warrant to remove the phony outlet, which contained a camera.

Investigators suspect that Weisberg had installed the device several years ago, allowing him to record and download the footage onto his laptop and cellphone.

According to the prosecution, authorities discovered 11 videos depicting six individuals, including three female employees of Flavor Frenzy, in the “deleted” folder on Weisberg’s phone.

In one of those alleged videos, a 16-year-old employee tried on different Flavor Frenzy t-shirts, exposing her breasts to the camera. Weisberg allegedly asked the girl to try on and model different t-shirts for the business, prosecutors said.

Detectives allegedly found two other videos of female employees, including a minor, who officials have yet to identify. Those alleged videos show the workers undressing and exposing their buttocks and sex organs.

Since Weisberg’s arrest on Friday afternoon, four more teenage girls who worked at the ice cream shop told police that he asked them to model t-shirts. He allegedly told them to remove their bras for photos so that there would be no bra outline in the photos.

Weisberg is due in court again on Sept.15.

Addison police said Flavor Frenzy is open, and its business license was voluntarily surrendered.

Addison police asked anyone with information to call them at 630-543-3080.
