Marvel Television is back with an exciting new superhero narrative.
The show, titled “Wonder Man,” is intriguingly set against the backdrop of Hollywood.
George Pennacchio from On The Red Carpet caught up with the cast as they geared up for the show’s debut.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II takes on the role of Simon Williams, an aspiring actor eager to portray “Wonder Man” in an upcoming superhero film. As the story unfolds, audiences will discover that Simon might just be the perfect fit for the role.
“What I truly enjoy about this show is offering a glimpse into the life of an actor striving to land a job, particularly to those unfamiliar with the acting world,” Abdul-Mateen shared.
In his journey, Simon crosses paths with fellow actor Trevor Slattery, portrayed by Sir Ben Kingsley, a character shrouded in a bit of intrigue. Kingsley praises the show for its clever concept and engaging storyline.
“These are such beautifully written characters with their vulnerabilities and their tremendous strengths that every day we find a different layer in the character,” Kingsley said. “And every episode touched on that different layer too, so very exciting journey.”
“Wonder Man” is not your typical superhero story. There’s more comedy and drama and less action.
“It definitely is a look at the actor’s life, you know, from the ground up. From the struggling actor and the people who are just, you know, struggling to make that dream happen for years and years and years,” said co-creator and director Destin Daniel Cretton.
“It will culminate in something emotional and unique and unexpected,” said co-creator and writer Andrew Guest.
All eight episodes of “Wonder Man” stream on Disney+ Tuesday.
The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Marvel Studios and this ABC station.
