In a deeply unsettling case emerging from Michigan, a 63-year-old babysitter, Gaila Bennett, stands accused of heinous acts involving children under her care. Authorities in Midland, a city approximately 120 miles northwest of Detroit, have charged Bennett with a staggering 47 counts of criminal sexual misconduct. These charges follow allegations that span a troubling period from 2013 to 2020, as reported by the Michigan State Police.

During a court arraignment on Monday, Bennett faced a suite of serious charges that paint a disturbing picture of betrayal and abuse. Among the accusations are 24 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and 12 counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, both involving children younger than 13. Furthermore, Bennett is charged with 11 counts of assault with intent to commit sexual penetration, as detailed by the Midland Daily News.

The accusations against Bennett are rooted in alleged incidents at her residence on Prairie Road in Midland County. The investigation was set in motion earlier this month when a family from Bay County courageously stepped forward, urging authorities to look into their suspicions of abuse.

One particularly harrowing account from a victim has surfaced, revealing that the child allegedly endured sexual assault almost daily since kindergarten while under Bennett’s care. Investigators have also uncovered disturbing claims that Bennett may have taken photographs documenting the abuse, further compounding the gravity of the situation, as the Midland Daily News reports.

This case, marked by its severity and the vulnerability of its victims, continues to unfold as law enforcement delves deeper into the allegations. The community remains on edge, grappling with the shock and betrayal that such allegations invariably bring.

One victim told investigators she was allegedly sexually assaulted nearly every day since kindergarten while being babysat by Bennett. Investigators also allege Bennett took photos of the abuse, according to the Midland Daily News.

“This incident remains under investigation, and more charges may be sought,” Michigan State Police said.

Michigan State Police and the Midland County Sheriff’s Department did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
