In a collaborative effort, the Jacksonville Humane Society and Jacksonville Animal Care & Protective Services are partnering with EveryPet to offer a special microchipping event for local pets this Saturday. The initiative aims to enhance pet safety by providing the service free of charge to the first 150 families who attend.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — When pets go missing, identification markers such as ID tags play a crucial role in reuniting them with their owners. However, situations like lost collars or outdated contact information can arise, making microchips a vital backup for pet identification.

This weekend, residents of Duval County have the opportunity to take part in a microchipping drive hosted by the Jacksonville Humane Society, Jacksonville Animal Care & Protective Services, and EveryPet, a local affordable veterinary clinic.

The event will be held at EveryPet’s Norwood Avenue facility, which typically offers spay and neuter services. On Saturday, November 29, the focus will shift to microchipping, with the clinic welcoming pets from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Families in Duval County can bring up to two pets for microchipping. The service will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and friendly pets are encouraged to attend as walk-ins. Normally priced at $25 per pet, the microchipping service will be complimentary for the first 150 attendees.

According to its website, the service is usually $25 per pet.

Microchipping is increasingly important as ACPS continues to pursue a change in its stray hold policy. The shelter wants to soon allow adoption of found animals after three days instead of six, meaning owners may have less time to track down their lost pets. ACPS says it will hold dogs and cats with registered microchips for the full six days.

Animals adopted from either shelter already come microchipped — but it’s important to make sure those chips have the most up to date information so that their family can be identified. That includes any changes in ownership, address or phone number.

JHS also recommends owners register their pets with Petco Love Lost, an online service for lost and found animals.
