Mike Waltz Admits 'We Made a Mistake'; How Goldberg Was Added to Signal Chat Remains Under Investigation

National Security Advisor Mike Waltz appeared on Fox News “The Ingraham Angle” to further address the Trump administration national security team Signal chat exposed in a Monday article by Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg.

In the article, Goldberg alleged that he had been accidentally added to a Signal text group that included Vice President JD Vance, NSA Mike Waltz, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and others from the Trump administration national security team. Goldberg further claimed that via the chat, he was privy to classified details surrounding the bombing of the Houthis in Yemen. While National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes confirmed the authenticity of the Signal chat to which Goldberg was inadvertently added, in a tarmac presser in Hawaii, Hegseth denied that any war plans had been transmitted over texts. On Tuesday, President Donald Trump affirmed his confidence in Mike Waltz: “He’s a very good man right there that you criticized so strongly… and he will continue to do a good job.”

Ingraham opened with the obvious question: “How did a Trump-hating journalist from The Atlantic end up on your Signal chat?”

Waltz responded:

You know, Laura, I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but of all the people out there, somehow this guy, who has lied about the president, who has lied to Gold Star families, lied to their attorneys, and gone to Russia hoax, gone to just all kinds of lengths to lie and smear the President of the United States, and he’s the one that somehow gets on somebody’s contact and then gets sucked into this group.

Waltz confirmed that aside from the mistake made, the question of how Jeffrey Goldberg ended up being added to the chat was a point that was under investigation.

It’s embarrassing, yes. We’re going to get to the bottom of it — I just talked to Elon on the way here, we’ve got the best technical minds looking at how this happened. But I can tell you; I can tell you for 100 percent: I don’t know this guy. I know him by his horrible reputation, and he really is the bottom scum of journalists. And I know him in the sense that he hates the president. But I don’t text him, he wasn’t on my phone, and we’re going to figure out how this happened.

Ingraham pushed Waltz several times on whether it was a staffer on his Intel team. Waltz was adamant that “a staffer wasn’t responsible. Look, I take full responsibility. I built the group; my job is to make sure everyone is coordinated.”

WATCH:

Waltz also further emphasized not having any relationship or knowledge of Jeffrey Goldberg beyond the editor’s infamous reputation related to hoaxes and Trump hatred.

No idea. Wouldn’t know him if I bumped into him; if I saw him in a police lineup. Do now! Knew him by reputation, about lying about the president over and over and over again. What I can tell you for certain: Certainly wasn’t reaching out or talking to him at all. Why would I?
