TOP O’ THE MORNIN’

Red-Hot at RedState

Gavin Newsom is facing a wave of mockery after holding a ceremony to honor a high-speed train project that remains elusive. The event spotlighted what many are calling an “invisible” train, drawing criticism and ridicule from various quarters.

In another developing story, a scathing report has surfaced, bringing allegations against Rashida Tlaib. The report suggests her alleged connections to terrorist groups, raising ‘serious concerns’ about her affiliations.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump is making headlines once again by drastically altering the deportation process. His bold move is expected to spark a legal showdown with yet another activist judge, setting the stage for a court battle that could have lasting implications.

Representative Tlaib is one of the most anti-American members of Congress today. Her behavior has far exceeded censure levels. It’s time for expulsion.

When it goes into effect, we’ll see every loony-left judge around the nation issuing injunctions, and then the court fight will start.

Lucy Connolly Was Set Up

Lucy was railroaded for a reason, and it had nothing to do with even a perverse sense of what should or should not be criminal. It was a political prosecution, and she was a political prisoner.

WHAT’S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill…

It’s Friday, so there are no formal meetings/hearings set on the Hill today. Here’s the latest on what the critters are up to:

The political dynamics surrounding the DHS funding fight are starting to feel a lot like those that played out during the disastrous 43-day full government shutdown in October and November.

While the current clash is more limited in scope, we’ve already seen Hill leaders retreat comfortably to their partisan corners. One of the reasons why last year’s shutdown lasted so long was because of a similar incentive structure.

While progressives have been clamoring for a DHS shutdown, it’s important to remember that ICE is already fully funded through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. A DHS shutdown would only impact unrelated but critical services, such as TSA, FEMA and the Coast Guard.

Yet the Democratic base won’t like any deal that isn’t fully on Democratic terms, which is a big problem for Jeffries in particular. The pair of New York Democrats face some sensitive political maneuvering in the near term even as the overall political landscape favors them.

The ultimate concern for Johnson and Thune is that Trump may just decide to go his own way and cut a deal with Democrats. The president is clearly uninterested in a shutdown of any length. Democrats are gambling that Trump will abandon Thune and Johnson — just like he did when he agreed with Schumer to pass the two-week CR.

As for next Friday’s DHS funding deadline, Thune and Johnson will need to decide soon whether to pursue another short-term funding patch or try to jam Democrats with a year-long CR. Senate Democrats have all the leverage here.

Basically, it’s in a state of flux, and we won’t know how it’s all going to shake out until it does. 🤷‍♀️

White House What’s Up

President Trump has a fairly low-key Friday set, at least officially: executive order signing in the afternoon, then heading off to Mar-a-Lago for the weekend. Thursday night, he announced the official launch of TrumpRx.

Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance is in Milan, Italy, with his family, attending the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
