The man’s vehicle ended up in a ditch after the crash Sunday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a collision on U.S. Highway 1 in St. Johns County Sunday evening resulted in one man’s death and left four other individuals injured.
Troopers said around 7:12 p.m., three vehicles were traveling south on US-1 near the intersection of Ray Road.
FHP said a sedan driven by a 71-year-old St. Augustine man and a sedan driven by a 49-year-old Ponte Vedra man were stopped at the intersection in the outside and inside lanes, respectively.
Another sedan, driven by a 62-year-old St. Augustine man, failed to stop at the intersection and hit the back of the first sedan in the outside lane. After the initial crash, troopers said the vehicle side-swiped the right side of the sedan in the inside lane.
The sedan driven by the 71-year-old man ended up in a ditch off the intersection, FHP said. The driver was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
There were seven people involved in the crash, including passengers. Four people sustained minor injuries, according to FHP.
The crash report states everyone was wearing a seatbelt.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
