NEW YORK — Broadway musicians have successfully brokered a preliminary deal with the Broadway League, narrowly sidestepping a strike early Thursday.

Members of Local 802 had been operating without a formal contract since August’s conclusion.

Engaging with a mediator, both parties managed to strike a compromise.

The provisional agreement promises salary hikes and enhanced contributions to the health fund. Following the announcement, AFM Local 802 President Bob Suttmann released a statement:

“Standing united, Local 802 Broadway musicians are delighted to reveal that we finalized a tentative pact with the Broadway League at 4:30 am, averting a strike that was slated for today. This three-year contract introduces significant improvements in wages and health benefits, ensuring vital healthcare access for our musicians while safeguarding robust contractual protections essential for building a stable Broadway career.”

Moving forward, Local 802 plans to present the tentative agreement to its members for approval.

If the musicians do walk, 23 different shows would be impacted (theater names are in parentheses):

  • Death Becomes Her (Lunt Fontanne)
  • Just in Time (Circle in the Square)
  • Maybe Happy Ending (Belasco)
  • Queen of Versailles (St. James)
