Investigators say the deputy falsified time records and collected thousands of dollars in unearned pay.

NASSAU COUNTY, FLORIDA — A corrections deputy from Nassau County has been charged with official misconduct and grand theft after an investigation revealed she altered time records to receive unearned wages.

Deputy Arielle Hester, aged 36, was arrested on Monday as a result of an inquiry conducted by the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division. The investigation was initiated in July 2025 when inconsistencies were detected in Hester’s listed work hours.

Investigators reported that Hester consistently claimed pay for hours she did not work, including asserting she completed full 12-hour shifts despite being absent. They also accused her of submitting false claims for training, citing an instance where she requested 11 hours of credit for an 8-hour training session.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the manipulated time entries spanned from 2024 to 2025, accumulating $4,478.63 in unwarranted compensation. Officials stated that Hester knowingly acquired over $750 from the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office by altering records, breaching Florida law.

“These charges are both disappointing and concerning; however, we will conduct a thorough investigation and pursue necessary criminal action if any member is found breaching public trust,” stated Sheriff Bill Leeper. “This arrest reflects our dedication to transparency and our strict policy against misconduct.”
