A POPULAR children’s cough syrup product has been urgently recalled nationwide due to its contamination with a deadly component.

Multiple batches of cough syrup have been recalled after they were discovered to contain Bacillus cereus, a bacterium capable of causing food poisoning and, in severe cases, death.

Medtech Products Inc voluntarily recalled five lots of Little Remedies Honey Cough Syrup on June 17.

The recall was issued due to the presence of Bacillus cereus, a dangerous bacteria.

The toxin-producing bacteria are commonly found in soil, food, and marine sponges.

It can lead to two types of food-borne illnesses, according to a June 18 announcement by the Food and Drug Administration.

Nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps may be experienced one to six hours after eating or drinking contaminated food by some.

The second type of food poisoning results in stomach cramps and diarrhea that can begin eight to 16 hours after consumption of the contaminated food.

“While healthy individuals might only experience temporary sickness, encountering high concentrations of foodborne B. cereus can be fatal,” the announcement cautions.

Thus far, no serious health complications from the Little Remedies Honey Cough Syrup have been reported.

SYRUP SCARE

The five affected lots of cough syrup were sold in the US online and in stores from December 14, 2022, to June 4, 2025.

The contaminated products came with an outer carton and an amber bottle containing four fluid ounces of cough syrup.

Individuals who have a tainted product should stop using it right away and contact their doctor if they notice any symptoms that could be connected to the cough syrup.

Shoppers can return the medicine for a full refund from Medtech.

Those with questions or refund requests can reach out to the company via email at medicalaffairs@prestigebrands.com, through its website, or by calling 800-754-8853.

The recall comes on the heels of Vita Warehouse Corp recalling a lot of its vitamin B12 gummies at risk of containing an undeclared allergen.

Those with peanut allergies “run the potential risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products,” warned the FDA’s announcement.

Popular chocolates have also been recalled nationwide after a “life-threatening” ingredient was found inside.

Plus, “contaminated” fruit was recalled in 19 states over an ingredient inside that could kill you – millions are at risk.
