A Navy pilot is unharmed following the crash of an F-35C fighter jet near Naval Air Station Lemoore in Southern California. This incident led to a fiery crash and triggered a response from CAL Fire.

NAS Lemoore said “an aviation incident on the operations side of the installation” took place at around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The jet descended into a field near the junction of South Dickenson Avenue and West Cadillac Ave, erupting in flames, according to a report from the California Highway Patrol.

“We can confirm the pilot successfully ejected and is safe. There are no additional affected personnel,” NAS Lemoore confirmed via Facebook.

NAS Lemoore uniquely hosts the F-35 Lightning II within the Navy, as per its website, and is also the base for over half of the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet aircraft within the branch.

The F-35 was part of the VFA-125 “Rough Raiders” squadron stationed at Naval Air Station Lemoore in Fresno County, California.

At the base, there are sixteen operational Strike Fighter squadrons, two Fleet Replacement squadrons, a Search and Rescue squadron, and various commands and staff for four west coast Carrier Air Wing Commands.

The base is located in Fresno County.

Fox News Digital reached out to NAS Lemoore but did not hear back by time of publication.
