A suspect was charged following a shooting by a gunman from a boat into a waterfront restaurant in North Carolina on Saturday night, resulting in three deaths and injuries to at least five more people.

Nigel Max Edge, aged 40, faced charges of three counts of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted first-degree murder in relation to the shooting at the American Fish Company restaurant in Southport, North Carolina, as confirmed by the city’s public information officer, ChyAnn Ketchum, to Fox News on Sunday morning.

Officials previously indicated that a boat with one occupant on the Cape Fear River stopped momentarily in front of the restaurant around 9:30 p.m. and commenced firing, killing three restaurant patrons and wounding several others.

The boat then sped off in the direction of the Intracoastal Waterway towards neighboring Oak Island.
