CHICAGO (WLS) — The city of Chicago is looking for a Christmas tree and it could be yours.
Residents have until October 14 to submit a tree.
The winning tree will light up Millennium Park. The Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place November 21.
“Every year, people in Chicago gather to enjoy the holiday season at Millennium Park,” Mayor Brandon Johnson expressed. “Our events at Millennium Park highlight the community, creativity, and holiday spirit that illuminate our city. We are eager to welcome everyone to this year’s festivities.”
For trees to be eligible, they need to meet the following criteria:
– Be at least 45 feet tall or more;
– Be located within 50 miles of Chicago’s Loop, with a preference for trees situated within 15 miles of Chicago;
– Ideally be a Norway Spruce or Fir Tree, as Pine trees are not considered due to their lack of sturdiness.
Submissions sent to dcase@cityofchicago.org should include:
– The owner’s name, address, phone number, and email;
– A short description explaining why the tree should be chosen as Chicago’s official Christmas Tree, including any unique background details about the tree;
– At least two photographs (one distant shot and one close-up).
