URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Champaign County Sheriff Dustin Heuerman has declared his candidacy for a third term as the leading law enforcement officer in the county.

Heuerman announced his candidacy in a news release on Wednesday. He was first elected Sheriff in 2018 and was reelected in 2022.

“Success in the role of Sheriff requires forging partnerships with community stakeholders so that we can make a tangible difference in our community. It means setting aside divisive politics to serve all members of our community as effectively as possible. He also participated as a board member for the Champaign Rotary Club and the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association.
