A New York City police officer sustained an injury to the head when struck by an object while attempting to apprehend a stabbing suspect in the Bronx on Thursday evening, according to officials.
The incident unfolded just before 5:30 p.m. at the Fordham Road subway station. Officers identified a 41-year-old man as the suspect linked to an earlier stabbing incident on East 157th Street and Gerard Avenue, the NYPD reported.
As the officers closed in, the suspect hurled an unidentified object, hitting one of the officers on the head before making his escape, a police spokesperson revealed.
The injured officer was promptly transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for a minor cut and is currently in stable condition.

The suspect is wanted in connection with a stabbing that took place earlier in the day, around 12:15 p.m., police stated.

The victim of the stabbing is also reported to be in stable condition, authorities confirmed.
No arrests have been made.
The investigation is ongoing.
