NEW YORK — An off-duty officer shot a suspect during an attempted robbery at Penn Station in New York during the height of rush hour on Wednesday, as reported by police.
Authorities stated that a married couple were boarding an LIRR train around 7 p.m. when the suspect attempted to rob the husband, who is an off-duty NYPD officer.
A struggle ensued between the husband and the suspect, which led to the wife, also an off-duty NYPD officer, drawing her weapon and shooting the suspect in both the arm and stomach.
The incident took many commuters by surprise, particularly those heading to Ronkonkoma, as they witnessed police attending to the injured suspect on the bustling platform.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital and is expected to be OK. No one else was injured.
Law enforcement officials say the couple were working at the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, and were headed home at the time incident.
Police say it appeared that it may have started on the train and then spilled out on the platform.
According to sources from ABC New York affiliate WABC, the 32-year-old suspect, who resides in a Brooklyn shelter, has a criminal history with five prior unsealed arrests, primarily for assault and menacing, including an alleged assault that occurred just last month.
