Whoops: Karen Bass May Have Had a Little Change of Heart About Anti-ICE Chaos in New Statement

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued a striking statement on Friday following the onset of anti-ICE protests in her city, declaring, “We will not stand for this.” However, she wasn’t referring to not tolerating the riots or interference with law enforcement, but rather the actions of ICE itself.

Reports surfaced this morning about federal immigration enforcement operations at various locations in Los Angeles. As the Mayor of a city that takes pride in its immigrants, who make countless contributions to our community, I am profoundly angered by these developments. Such tactics instill fear among our residents and undermine the fundamental principles of safety in our city. My Office is working closely with immigrant rights organizations to address this issue. We will not stand for this.”

Her statement drew criticism from Trump officials and others, with many suggesting it encourages negative actions. Her assertion that “we” will not tolerate law enforcement efforts seems to be sparking controversy. It’s a contentious stance.
