Los Angeles officials reported on Tuesday that more than 40 individuals now face new charges related to violent riots opposing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement initiatives last month.

Prosecutors highlighted several cases among the charges, including a 17-year-old juvenile charged with attempted murder, incidents where protesters allegedly assaulted horses from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and a man charged with injuring a police officer using a flagpole, according to a press release by LA District Attorney Nathan Hochman.

“The large-scale protests may have ended for now, but our work has not,” Hochman said.

These charges follow weeks of confrontations with rioters on the streets of Los Angeles, resulting in numerous arrests as local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies worked together to quell the unrest triggered by protests over immigration raids in the sanctuary city.

“We are continuing to review evidence, identify suspects and file charges where the law has been broken,” Hochman said. “I want to thank the team of investigators and prosecutors for their tireless efforts to ensure that those who committed criminal acts under the guise of protest are held accountable.”
