In Moreno Valley, California, the search persists for 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro, who has been missing for more than a week. His parents are now linked to a separate abuse investigation.
His parents — Rebecca and Jake Haro — were arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday at their home in Cabazon.
Jake and Rebecca Haro were arrested Friday morning at their home in Cabazon.
The couple had claimed their baby was kidnapped in Yucaipa on Thursday, Aug. 14, but detectives say that story quickly fell apart.
Rebecca claimed she was assaulted and rendered unconscious in a parking area near a Big 5 store in Yucaipa. When she awoke, she informed investigators that her baby was missing, alleging he had been abducted.
Following Emmanuel’s disappearance, the parents faced scrutiny, with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department noting “inconsistencies” in the mother’s account of events.
Although the search for baby Emmanuel is still active, authorities fear the child may be deceased. Investigators spent significant time thoroughly searching the parents’ residence in Cabazon on Friday.
Deputies say the Haros are also at the center of other reports of abuse.
On Thursday afternoon, Riverside County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of child abuse on Cottonwood Avenue in Moreno Valley. They confirmed this case is connected to the Haros.
Deputies said the investigation into the alleged abuse is ongoing. No further details were released.
A community vigil was held on Friday night for baby Emmanuel.
Rebecca and Jake are due in court next week.
According to Riverside County records, Jake pleaded guilty to willful cruelty to a child following a 2018 arrest.
