On Sunday, members of the Beulah Land Missionary Baptist Church convened outside their place of worship, demanding the removal of their pastor, who faces serious accusations of violently pushing a woman down a set of cement steps.
Pastor Lorenz Roseman, who leads the Baptist church in Gardena, located in LA’s South Bay, was caught on surveillance footage last year, forcefully shoving an elderly woman through a metal gate at the church’s entrance.
Despite the charges, Roseman was released after two days with a promise to appear in court. He has since resumed his duties, claiming that a majority vote during a church business meeting supported his continued leadership, according to a report by KTLA.
In addressing the allegations, Roseman stated, “The incident arose after I uncovered and confirmed that some prominent members, who were in influential positions, were possibly involved in unethical or illegal activities. I proceeded to remove them from these roles.”
Roseman further explained, “When these individuals couldn’t remove me through our church’s policies, they started attacking my reputation and misusing the legal system against me. However, the courts have dismissed these claims, recognizing them as baseless and without merit.”
Despite Roseman’s defense, congregants like Dr. Ta-Taneisha Thames remain unconvinced by his justification.
“He does not get to put his hands on anyone,” she told KTLA. “That is not okay. He has to go.”
The woman he pushed, Elise McTaw, claims her wrist and toes were fractured from the fall.
“This is what the pastor did,” Najee Ali, a community activist with Project Islamic Hope, said while pointing to a brace worn by the pastor’s alleged victim. “That’s why the members of the church are asking him to step down.”
