THE housemates of missing teen Phoebe Bishop have been charged with murder, nearly a month after she went missing.

James Wood, 34, and Tanika Bromley, 33, have each been charged with one count of murder and two counts of interfering with a corpse.

Police arrested Wood – the last person to see the teen on the trip to the airport – on Wednesday, before being released just hours later.

But he and his partner Bromley have now been arrested and charged – three weeks after Phoebe’s last known sighting.

It comes after a gruelling search mission which was called off just days earlier.

17-year-old Phoebe, from Gin Gin, north of Brisbane, has not been seen or heard from since Thursday, May 15.

No sign of her body has been found yet.

Police said: “Detectives continue to investigate this matter, and physical searches will continue as needed as information is provided.”

They made the arrest in the Bundaberg area and are due to appear in court on Friday.

The arrest comes after Wood told the Daily Mail that Pheobe had been complaining and having emotional outbursts before they left to the airport.

He said: “She gets like that sometimes and usually we can calm her down but she was escalating and then she smashed the TV”.

On the drive to the airport, Wood, his girlfriend Bromley, and Pheobe argued over whether the car could stop.

Pheobe wanted to do her makeup in the car before they arrived despite their being bathrooms at the airport, Wood said.

She was on her way to, Perth, Western Australia to visit her “high-school sweetheart” boyfriend.

So, he pulled over, less than a kilometre away from their destination.

He said: “We wanted to give her five minutes, give her her own space to do what she needed to do.”

Wood and Bromley then walked off and were away from Pheobe and the car for five minutes, he said.

When he returned, he said Pheobe and her bag were gone.

Wood insisted to the news outlet he had nothing to do with her disappearance and had gone looking for her with Bromley.

After not being able the find the teen, he assumed that she had boarded her flight.

Australian teenager Phoebe was supposed to board a flight on May 15 to see her boyfriend – but mysteriously she never checked.

The explosive drive to the airport was the last time anyone had seen her.

A family member said: “Her phone has been switched off from this point.

“She hasn’t contacted anyone at all, no one has seen her.”

The trio had been living in a derelict pad together, which cops have now declared a crime scene.

Her distressed mum, Kylie Johnson, has made a series of heartbreaking pleas begging anyone with information to come forward.

She also claimed that her daughter’s sudden disappearance was out of character.

The teenager was scheduled to catch a flight to Brisbane before heading to Perth to visit her high-school sweetheart, but CCTV revealed she never made it inside the airport.

Her social media accounts have also not been active since she went missing.

And her last bank account activity was recorded on May 14, the day before she disappeared.

Bromley, aged 33, had been previously detained by law enforcement after they reportedly discovered weapons in his silver Hyundai ix35, which has become a key focus in the police investigation.

The day before, a new number plate was discovered to have been painted and taped over the Hyundai’s original plate.
