Planned Parenthood now sells Botox, fillers after funding cut

Botox, lip fillers, and laughing gas are now part of the offerings at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Sacramento, California, as it seeks new ways to sustain its operations following financial setbacks.

Contrary to what one might expect, a beauty-focused dental clinic has not emerged in the state’s capital. Instead, the local branch of Planned Parenthood is diversifying its services after funding cuts from the failure of the ‘Big Beautiful Bill.’

“We’re not your mother’s Planned Parenthood,” Dr. Laura Dalton, the chief medical officer at Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, enthusiastically told KCRA.

In addition to its well-known reproductive health services, the clinic has begun offering cosmetic enhancements like Botox and fillers. It also provides GLP-1 medications for weight loss and nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, to help manage anxiety and pain.

Dr. Dalton expressed that these new offerings are part of a broader strategy to keep the clinic thriving. “We are resilient and innovative,” she said, “and I like to say that when faced with a crisis, our doors did not close. They opened wider.”

“We are resilient and innovative, and I like to say that when faced with a crisis, our doors did not close. They opened wider,” Dalton said.

In light of the Trump administration cutting off $100 million to the nation’s largest Planned Parenthood — a medical provider known for providing abortions and menstrual care to women — the California-based branch needed more funds.

Gov. Gavin Newsom provided Planned Parenthood Mar Monte with $90 million earlier this month, mostly filling the gap left by the Trump administration. Dalton said the new services will help the organization “backfill” in funding further for visits that weren’t reimbursed “in the Sexual and Reproductive Health program,” she said.

One patient told KCRA that she wanted to get Botox anyways, so supporting Planned Parenthood was a bonus.

“I am personally interested in receiving Botox now and again, and I’d be going somewhere to do that anyway. The fact that I now get to do that Planned Parenthood and am supporting the effort to offset the devastating budget cuts they’ve experienced,” she said.

Dalton agrees with the sentiment.

“If you were going to get this service anyways and you want to support Planned Parenthood, why not do it together?” Dalton said.

Not every Planned Parenthood in Sacramento is offering beauty services, but the organization plans to expand it to all 30 clinics in the area. They also offer Botox at a cheaper price than med-spas.

While beauty services are emerging in Sacramento Planned Parenthoods, constants remain.

Anti-abortion activists were seen protesting outside of a Planned Parenthood on Sacramento’s B street.

One sign pleaded with customers heading into received Planned Parenthood services, which now includes beauty injections.

“Lost hope? Let’s talk, we can help,” it said.
