Police: Ocala 9-year-old arrested for bringing loaded gun onto school bus

The police report that the 9-year-old is charged with several offenses, including having a firearm on school grounds, armed burglary, and grand theft of a firearm.

OCALA, Fla. — A young boy of nine is facing numerous charges following his arrest on Monday for carrying a loaded firearm onto a school bus in Ocala, as stated by the Ocala Police Department.

The police department shared on Facebook that officers acted on a report regarding a student possessing a gun on a school bus on Monday morning. Upon their arrival, they apprehended the boy and retrieved the firearm from the bus.

Authorities mentioned that the boy took a revolver from a family member’s room without asking and confessed to bringing it on the bus and showing it to other students.

Police said the boy was then arrested and taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice. No injuries were reported in the incident.

According to police, the boy faces the following charges:

  • Possession of a firearm on school property
  • Armed burglary
  • Grand theft of a firearm
  • Carrying a concealed firearm
  • Disruption of school function

“We commend the students for informing the bus driver and helping to secure everyone’s safety,” the police department noted in their post. “We also acknowledge the quick action of law enforcement. The safety of our children is paramount. This incident highlights the importance of staying alert and quickly addressing concerns. We remain determined to support our schools and community as we seek justice.”
