According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened at Westwood Apartments early Monday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An early Monday morning shooting at a Jacksonville apartment complex resulted in injuries to a man in his mid-30s, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO Sgt. Ray Reeves stated that patrol officers were directed to Westwood Apartments, located at 1171 South Lane Ave., around 3:30 a.m. concerning the shooting incident.

Upon arrival, Reeves informed First Coast News that officers discovered the man with multiple gunshot injuries. Although the exact number of gunshots was unknown, he confirmed the man was shot outside his apartment.

According to Reeves, members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department then responded to the scene and took the man a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

“We have spoken with witnesses on scene and [are] trying to come up with a timeline that will help us in this endeavor,” Reeves said. “It appears that there’s a vehicle that was struck. They’re (detectives) working to confirm if that was part of this or if that was possibly old damage. We don’t have the details of that quite yet.”

When asked what led up to the shooting, Reeves said: “According to neighbors, there was nothing going on.”

The sheriff’s office is actively investigating the incident, according to Reeves.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
