CHICAGO (WLS) — As Arlington Heights continues its campaign to woo the Chicago Bears, another contender from Northwest Indiana has entered the race.

Portage, Indiana, is gearing up to present its proposal for a new Bears stadium, called “Halas Harbor,” on Wednesday.

Officials have released visuals of the envisioned complex, which would span over 300 acres and be strategically positioned between Route 12 and I-94.

The Bears are also considering a location near Hammond, with Indiana lawmakers working diligently to finalize plans before their spring session concludes in under three weeks.

“This demonstrates Indiana’s commitment, evidenced by our legislative efforts to ensure the economic and financial aspects are addressed,” stated Indiana state Rep. Earl Harris, representing the state’s 2nd District.

Meanwhile, proponents of the Bears relocating to Arlington Heights are scheduling a rally for Wednesday evening to show their support.

Sources tell ABC7 the Bears and legislative leaders have met weekly since December – to discuss the state paying for infrastructure around the stadium while the team pays for the stadium itself.

Chicago, however, does not appear to be in the running, but Mayor Brandon Johnson said he is still not giving up hope.
