New York City’s Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, along with Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, spearheaded a group of progressive politicians denouncing President Trump’s decision to carry out airstrikes in conjunction with Israel against Iran.

“The military actions against Iran today—executed by the US and Israel—represent a disastrous escalation of what is already an unlawful war of aggression,” Mamdani stated on Saturday. This proclamation came just a few days after the socialist mayor found common ground with Trump regarding potential housing investments in New York City during a recent visit to the White House.

“Bombing urban areas. Causing civilian casualties. Initiating another war zone. This is not what Americans desire. They are not in favor of another war aimed at regime change. They seek solutions to the affordability crisis. They long for peace,” Mamdani emphasized.

The mayor reiterated his commitment to ensuring the safety of all New Yorkers. He has been in communication with Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch and emergency management teams to implement “proactive measures, such as boosting coordination among agencies and enhancing patrols at sensitive sites, out of an abundance of caution,” he explained in a statement.

“Moreover, I want to directly address Iranian New Yorkers: you are integral to the fabric of this city—you are our neighbors, small business owners, students, artists, workers, and community leaders,” said Mamdani, who was born in Uganda. “You will be safe here.”

“Additionally, I want to speak directly to Iranian New Yorkers: you are part of the fabric of this city — you are our neighbors, small business owners, students, artists, workers, and community leaders,” said the Ugandan-born pol.  “You will be safe here.”

Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) also accused Trump of “dragging” Americans “into a war they did not want,” alleging the president “does not care about the long-term consequences of his actions.

“This war is unlawful. It is unnecessary. And it will be catastrophic,” she ranted.

Omar (D-Minnesota) also piled on the president, accusing Trump of “unilaterally dragging this nation into an illegal and unjustified war with Iran without congressional authorization, without a clear objective, and without any imminent threat to the United States.”
