The Texas Democrats who escaped to Illinois earlier this month in opposition to congressional redistricting in Texas participated in a demonstration in downtown Chicago on Saturday.
People in Chicago and cities across the country are rallying for the Texas lawmakers.

On Saturday, a large crowd of hundreds gathered in Millennium Park to express support for the Texas House Democrats. The Texas legislators have been stationed in suburban Chicago for almost two weeks, aiming to obstruct Republican efforts to change the state’s US House districts ahead of next year’s midterm elections.

After the rally the protesters marched to Federal Plaza.
Hundreds of similar protests were held across the country today.
By leaving Texas, the House Democrats aimed to break quorum and halt a vote on a contentious redistricting measure that could potentially provide Republicans with up to five additional seats in the House.
