A human head has been unearthed at a bird sanctuary in Queens, reportedly linked to the gruesome discovery of a Guyanese woman’s torso found six months ago, according to police sources on Saturday.

Investigators from the homicide division located the severed head at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge on Thursday. They were following leads from cellphone tower data connected to a suspect in the earlier torso case, sources revealed.

The torso, discovered on September 23, 2025, was found approximately 10 miles away from the bird sanctuary, near Idlewood Park—a marshy area close to JFK Airport, according to the sources.

Two workers from the city’s Sanitation Department stumbled upon the shocking scene while collecting trash around the intersection of 149th Avenue and Brookville Boulevard, the NYPD reported.

The workers had unknowingly loaded the bagged remains into their vehicle’s hopper before detecting a strong, unpleasant odor, sources explained.

The torso was missing its head, arms, and legs, and was wrapped in tape and rope. Authorities suspect that a saw and a knife were used in the dismemberment, police noted.

The partially decomposed body had several visible tattoos including a flower and three names, cops have said.

The city Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating the remains to confirm the victim’s identity and cause of death, officials said.
