THIS is the awkward moment a famous Colombian rapper stopped his concert to berate a mum for bringing her baby.
Maluma, 31, was in the middle of his concert in Mexico City when he noticed a young child in the audience. Concerned, he addressed the parent for “treating them like a toy” by holding the child in such a manner.
During his performance at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico’s capital over the weekend, Maluma paused the show to speak directly to a mother in the crowd.
The rapper, currently on his +Pretty +Dirty World Tour, said in Spanish: “With all due respect, how old are they?”
He continued: “A year old? Less? Do you think it’s a good idea to bring a one-year-old baby to a concert where the decibels are this f***ing high?
“That baby doesn’t even know what it’s doing here.”
A video of the rapper’s rant has since gone viral online.
Maluma, who has a one-year-old daughter with his girlfriend Susana Gomez, told the mum she should have taken precautions to protect the baby’s ears.
“Next time, protect their ears or something,” he said. “For real. It’s heavy. It’s your responsibility.”
He went on to scold her, saying he would never do that as a parent.
“You’re waving them around like they’re a toy,” he said.
“That baby doesn’t want to be there, for real. I’m telling you with all love and respect. Now that I’m a father, I’d never bring them to a concert. For the next time, be a bit more aware,” he advised.
Maluma’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some praising his comments and others criticising him for shaming the mum.
One person wrote on TikTok: “Every mother knows what she has to do with her child. If not, they should limit the capacity to a certain age.
“What’s the point in putting her through that in front of so many people?”
But another applauded him, writing: “He probably saved that kid from not being able to hear for the rest of his life.”
Others criticised the organisers and security for allowing a baby into a rap concert.
Maluma’s tour is set to continue across Latin America, the US and Europe.
This comes as Justin Timberlake faced criticism from his fans for several “lazy performances” during his The Forget Tomorrow World Tour, which concluded on July 30.
Critics claimed Justin was “hardly singing” and leaning too much on the crowd, with many branding the shows “lazy.”
However, after his July 23 gig in Tbilisi, Georgia, a wave of support hit social media, with fans urging the pop star to rest.
