A 28-year-old individual has reportedly passed away from injuries sustained after being struck by lightning during a golf tournament in New Jersey this week.

Simon John Mariani, hailing from the suburban area of Franklin Lakes in New Jersey, was struck while playing the 15th hole at Ballyowen Golf Course on July 8. He passed away “unexpectedly” on Monday, according to the New York Post, which referenced an online obituary.

The obituary mentioned, “Outside of his professional life, Simon embraced all things family and enjoyed painting, photography, and baking.” It also noted, “He loved the outdoors, which included the beach, boating, fishing, hiking, golfing, and skiing.”

Mariani is survived by his parents and his two sisters.
