A couple allegedly abandoned their 10-year-old son at Barcelona’s airport after they discovered his passport had expired, in a bid not to miss their flight home, as per various news reports.
According to The Sun, an employee at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport revealed that the couple departed on Wednesday without their child, opting instead for a relative to pick him up.
An air traffic controller identified as Lilian recounted the situation in a TikTok video, explaining that the child was unable to board the flight due to his expired passport and also needed a visa.
A woman is seen with luggage at the airport in a photograph taken on July 6, 2020. Reports suggest the couple chose to leave their child behind rather than miss their flight.
Lilian further shared, “I asked travelers if anyone had left a child behind at the terminal, and there was no response. Eventually, the parents were found with another younger child.”
The parents were taken to a police station to get their son.
Expressing disbelief, Lilian questioned, “How can parents abandon their ten-year-old at the airport over documentation issues? They rely on a relative who might take anywhere from half an hour to three hours to arrive while they calmly leave on their flight!”
