Brad Arnold, the renowned frontman of the band 3 Doors Down, passed away at the age of 47, as confirmed by the group in a heartfelt Facebook announcement on Saturday.

Earlier this year, in May, Arnold revealed to fans that he was battling cancer, a diagnosis that shocked the music community.

In their tribute, 3 Doors Down highlighted Arnold’s pivotal role in shaping the band’s sound, noting, “As a founding member, lead vocalist, and original drummer, Brad redefined the landscape of mainstream rock. His unique blend of post-grunge elements with poignant, relatable lyrics struck a chord with listeners across the globe. His songwriting became emblematic of a generation, with timeless hits such as ‘Kryptonite,’ penned during a high school math class when he was just 15, standing testament to his talent.”

The band further reflected on his impact, stating, “Brad’s music transcended beyond performances, fostering connections, and evoking emotions of joy, faith, and unity that will endure long after the lights dimmed on stage.”

Released in 2000, “Kryptonite” soared to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieved eight-times Platinum status from the RIAA. The track featured on their first album, “The Better Life,” which itself is seven-times Platinum certified, also delivering hits like “Loser” and “Be Like That.”

Their success story continued with the 2002 album “Away from the Sun,” achieving quadruple Platinum status and producing popular singles “When I’m Gone” and “Here Without You.” Their subsequent albums, “Seventeen Days” (2005) and the self-titled “3 Doors Down” (2008), both made impressive debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

“Above all, (Arnold) was a devoted husband to (his wife) Jennifer, and his kindness, humor and generosity touched everyone fortunate enough to know him,” 3 Doors Down’s post reads. “Those closest to him will remember not only his talent, but his warmth, humility, faith, and deep love for his family and friends.”

“The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time and kindly asks that their privacy be respected,” the statement concludes. “He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.”

3 Doors Down released their last record, “Us and the Night,” in 2016. The band continued to tour, and performed ahead of Donald Trump’s first presidential inauguration in 2017.

Arnold grew up in Mississippi and co-founded the band in 1996. 3 Doors Down received Grammy nominations for “Kryptonite” and “When I’m Gone.”
