'Trade Over Aid': Rubio Announces Plan to Deep Six USAID, 'Make Foreign Aid Great Again'

Since President Donald Trump assumed office in January, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been in the spotlight. With the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) tasked to investigate government inefficiency and fraud, USAID came under scrutiny, revealing increasingly concerning details as more information surfaced.

Just two weeks into Trump’s term, Marco Rubio, recently confirmed as Secretary of State, declared he would temporarily take on the role of acting director of USAID.

On Tuesday, Rubio made a significant announcement about the future of the agency and the new approach the U.S. will adopt for providing foreign aid.
