AT least five people have reportedly been killed and several others injured after a student allegedly went on a school shooting spree in Austria.
Police have initiated a large-scale operation at a secondary school located on the Dreischützengasse street in Graz, which is the country’s second-largest city.
Police spokesperson Sabri Yorgun said special forces were among those sent to the high school after a call at 10am.
He said that authorities were working to get an overview of what had happened.
Authorities believe multiple guns were used in the shooting, and more victims could emerge.
Austrian special task force Cobra has also been deployed.
Citing local police, Austrian state media ORF said several people had been seriously injured, including students and teachers.
It said the suspected perpetrator, reportedly a pupil, is believed to have killed himself.
Police are currently evacuating the building, ORF said.
Graz is located in the southeast of the country and has about 300,000 inhabitants.
The shooting comes shortly before the tenth anniversary of the Graz rampage on June 20, which left three people dead.
