WASHINGTON — Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy, who has been garnering attention as a potential presidential candidate for 2028, made headlines with his unexpected approval of a controversial report. This report claimed that more than two dozen Iranian shadow vessels managed to evade the US blockade.
In a surprising move, Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, responded with a simple “Awesome” on X (formerly known as Twitter) when reacting to the report published by the shipping journal Lloyd’s List.

Meanwhile, Sean Parnell, the chief spokesman for the Pentagon, has refuted the claims made by Lloyd’s List. The report suggested that at least 26 ships, part of an Iranian-backed shadow fleet, had successfully slipped past the US blockade that President Trump began enforcing the previous week.
The Post has reached out to Senator Murphy’s office, seeking clarification and context regarding his cryptic social media response.
At 52, Murphy has been a vocal critic of the ongoing conflict in Iran, frequently criticizing US policies on international platforms in recent weeks.
He trekked to Spain last week, amid the country’s row with Trump, and claimed the US is facing “the most significant threat to American democracy since the Civil War.”

“We are not on the verge of a totalitarian takeover, we are in the middle of it,” he fumed, urging worldwide progressives to “beat back the forces of fascism.”
The progressive darling’s cheering on of Iran drew a torrent of backlash from social media, with critics reminding him of Iran’s brutality.
“First of all this is false. Second, a Dem senator cheering on the number one state sponsor of terror is shameful,” Parnell sniped on X.
