'This Violence Isn't Spontaneous': Senator Hawley Has Questions on LA Riots, Vows Investigation

As law enforcement, the National Guard, and the Marines strive to manage the chaos in Los Angeles and now in other significant cities, questions are arising about the financing behind it all. Strangely, the protesters are well-provided for, possessing what seem to be professionally made signs and similar materials.

Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) is determined to uncover who is supporting the rioters and protesters, and he has a particular organization in his crosshairs. On Wednesday, Senator Hawley announced he would be investigating the activities of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA).

The Senator’s letter to CHIRLA’s Executive Director, Angelica Salas, begins:

I write in my capacity as Chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism regarding your organization’s alleged role in financing and materially supporting the coordinated protests and riots that have engulfed Los Angeles in recent weeks. While peaceful protest is a cornerstone of American democracy, these demonstrations have escalated into lawless mob actions. They have obstructed federal law enforcement, endangered public safety, and disrupted the rule of law. This lawlessness is unacceptable. It must end.

The Senator then goes on to list a series of documents that CHIRLA should preserve and make ready for review by the Subcommittee.

RedState’s own Jennifer Van Laar replied with a list of other nefarious things Angelica Salas is involved in:

While it remains to be seen what will come out of all this, establishing a trail of funding to groups that are arguably in rebellion against the United States could have far-reaching consequences.
