Cops confirmed the suspected gunman was dead by the time they arrived on scene.

The shooting is reported to have taken place around 11:15 am local time at Crosspointe Community Church.

A Sunday service began there just minutes before at 10:45 am.

According to a police source, the male gunman drove his truck into the church and opened fire, per ABC News affiliate WXYZ.

Multiple people have been injured, but the severity of these injuries is not yet known, the sources told the outlet.

Cops confirmed that one person was shot in the leg but gave no further details.

Locals have been told to avoid the area as the investigation continues.

“The Wayne Police Department was dispatched to handle an active shooter situation at Crosspointe Church in Wayne this morning,” shared the City of Wayne, Michigan Police Department in a Facebook post.

“Upon arrival, officers determined that a security guard for the church shot and killed the suspect.

“One victim was shot in the leg. Please avoid the area.

“Officers are still actively investigating.”

Following the announcement, community members commended the brave security guard who neutralized the shooter, reporting they heard “at least 100 gunshots”.

“That security guard saved the day,” local Ethan Wagemann wrote in the comments.

“I heard it all sounded like it was right outside. Sounded like at least 100 rounds of machine gun fire.

“After I heard what sounded maybe 3 handgun shots there was no more machine gun fire.”

“Prayers to the Security Guard. He should get a Key to the City for his bravery and for possibly saving countless other lives,” another said.

A third added that the police response “was phenomenal”.
