In New York City, FX has introduced a new comedy series called “Adults,” featuring a cast led by Malik Elassal, Lucy Freyer, and Jack Innanen. The show revolves around a group of friends who share an apartment and tackle the challenges of early adulthood, dealing with quirky roommate situations, career launches, and the journey of becoming self-sufficient.

Reflecting this fictional portrayal, a real-life community of 17 friends in NYC offers a similar dynamic, as they share their lives through cooking, games, and mutual support.

Geffen Chang, Johnathan Redmond and Sarah Grubbe are three of them.

“I love living with my 16 roommates because we have a lot of fun together and it feels like a family. We’re always just having fun,” says Chang.

Grubbe comments on the experience, emphasizing the benefits of cohabitation for newcomers. “Moving to a new city can be overwhelming,” she notes. “Having a solid group of friends can make navigating the unknown much easier.”

The trio believes that a show like “Adults” will lead to more visibility on unconventional living situations and might encourage even skeptics to give it a try. More importantly, they appreciate how it will make young folks going through the same stage in life feel seen.

“To have a show, like FX’s ‘Adults,’ that really resonates with a lot of young people will get a lot of traction, and will get a lot of eyes on it because people can relate to it and they could say like, oh, this is totally us, this is what we do on a daily basis.”

FX’s “Adults” is now streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

Disney is the parent company of ABC Localish, FX, Hulu and this station.
