Shirley Lang Was There From the Beginning and Rejoices That She Lived to See the End of 'Roe' – RedState

For those of us who wholeheartedly believe in Life, this Friday is beyond Feel Good. While the Left and their allies are raging, spewing hate, and lodging threats, conservatives are rejoicing, and taking a victory lap over the decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

This is right and just. And for those who were there from the very beginning, this victory over the death merchants is even sweeter.

Shirley Lang has been praying for the past 50 years that she would live long enough to see this day.

There was never a doubt in her heart that Roe v. Wade — the landmark Supreme Court case that enshrined a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion in 1973 — would eventually be overturned, as happened on Friday.

The question was when?

“I didn’t think it would take this long,” the 88-year-old Lincoln woman said. “There have been people praying all over America to undo this because it is wrong.”

Lang was at the very first March for Life in 1974, where one of the senators speaking planted a seed.

She remembers distinctly the words one state senator left the demonstrators with on the Capitol steps.

“He said ‘You are on the right side, but you’re going to have to work at this for years,’” she said.

Lang took the words to heart and eventually co-founded Lincoln Right to Life.

“I felt like I had to do something about it,” she said.

Lincoln Right To Life (LRTL) is still in existence, carrying the torch of the pro-life cause in Nebraska. The resource center offers educational materials, speakers, and support to other pro-life persons and organizations in Lincoln. Along with praying to see the end of abortion, they have maintained a “legal and peaceful presence” at the local abortion clinic. LRTL also supports organizations like the “Sidewalk Advocates for Life-Lincoln,” and “Helpers of God’s Precious Infants” who offer active assistance to women with unplanned pregnancies, presenting them with options other than terminating the pregnancy.

From a small seed to a movement that has spread throughout the state of Nebraska, the pro-life presence and influence remained strong thanks to trailblazers like Shirley Lang. So much so that, in the wake of the Dobbs decision, Gov. Pete Ricketts plans to call a special session of the legislature with the intent to end abortion in the state.

Several other states, including Missouri, South Dakota, and Arkansas have already ended abortion in theirs.

Lang’s story is just one of thousands of women and men who forged the path through prayer, resources, marches, and petitions. One woman at a time, one baby at a time. While we grieve the 63 million murdered over the past 50 years, imagine how much larger that number would be if not for people like Shirley Lang?

That’s even more reason to Feel Good.
