Ex-Biden security staffer arrested in murder of SFSU graduate

A former security employee who once worked with President Joe Biden and appeared in photos with former Vice President Kamala Harris has been arrested in connection with a shocking murder case in San Francisco.

Nation Wood, aged 25, was detained on Wednesday, merely a day after allegedly shooting and killing 22-year-old Samantha Emge at a residence in San Francisco’s Sunset District. Emge had graduated from San Francisco State University in 2025.

On his LinkedIn profile, Wood claimed that he served as a part-time security officer for the Secret Service team at the White House, starting in November 2023.

His tenure at the White House reportedly extended until July 2025, during which he continued his role under President Donald Trump, as noted on his LinkedIn profile. He described himself as an “independent pre-event site security advisor.”

Wood’s LinkedIn account indicates that his role involved working as advance security, where he was responsible for providing “external advisory site security assessments for events with VIP attendance.”

His experience, as detailed on LinkedIn, included conducting site walkthroughs and coordinating in advance with the U.S. Secret Service for high-level government and wealthy individuals.

Wood shot and killed Emge at a residence near San Francisco’s Ocean Beach on Tuesday, according to cops.

Officers arrived at the home at 10:43 p.m. and discovered Wood’s alleged victim suffering from a gunshot wound, according to police. Emge was taken to a hospital where she died.

Homicide investigators on the case collected evidence against Wood and took him into custody for involuntary manslaughter. He was booked at San Francisco County Jail where he remained Friday.

Wood was a political science and government major at SFSU, graduating in May 2024, according to his LinkedIn account.

The alleged killer shared a photo showing him smiling with Harris and her husband, former Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, in front of a presidential jet in 2024.

Wood grins in the photo with the VP and other dignitaries taken on a tarmac before a jet engine painted the distinctive blue of U.S. presidential airplanes.

“Very grateful to have had the opportunity to help the VP with her trip to APEC in San Francisco,” the post reads.

The post is an apparent reference to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, which was an international summit of world powers hosted in San Francisco and attended by Harris.

Emge graduated from San Francisco State University and worked in interior design, according to her LinkedIn profile.

One of Emge’s friends told The SF Standard that Wood was the victim’s boyfriend.

Emge’s Instagram account shows the two together in several post, with one post showing them smiling and sporting baseball caps.

“Travelled, ate, built a table, and became a real adult in 2025,” Emge captioned the post.

The couple went on a trip to Yosemite together in June, after Emge’s graduation, according to her Instagram account

Emge’s friends mourned her on her profile.

“RIP” posted one friend of the dead young woman, with a heart emoji.

Supervisor Alan Wong, who represents the area where Emge was killed, suggested that Emge’s killing may have been an accident.

“Early information suggests that this may not have been an intentional act,” Wong told Mission Local.

Wood’s LinkedIn also shows that he also worked as a property manager for a self-storage facility.

Reps for the Secret Service didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on Wood’s alleged former employment there.
