A road rage incident in Jacksonville took a violent turn on Monday morning, leaving a man critically injured, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The altercation unfolded on Philips Highway after the victim, reportedly angered during a driving dispute, pursued the suspect to his place of employment at Del-Air Heating & Air Conditioning. Officers were alerted to the shooting around 7:30 a.m. and discovered the victim, a man in his early 60s, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Preliminary findings from the investigation suggest that the victim followed the suspect, a man in his mid-30s, to the HVAC business. An argument ensued, escalating when the victim exited his vehicle, at which point the suspect allegedly drew a handgun and fired a single shot, striking the victim in the chest.
The injured man was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition but is expected to survive, as reported by JSO Sergeant Richardson. Police apprehended the suspect later that day.
