The shooting led Jacksonville police to arrest a group of friends which led them to solve 11 cases, according to a release.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Six people have been arrested in connection to a group suspected of multiple firearms-related offenses after a tragic incident last August on Park Avenue that resulted in the death of a dog, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Last August, officers from District 6 of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting on Park Avenue where shots were fired at an occupied residence. Tragically, a Great Dane named Naomi was shot and killed on the porch. Investigators collected shell casings at the crime scene and, utilizing the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN), traced two of the suspects as 19-year-old Logan Kurlin and 22-year-old Nathan Kizer, the Sheriff’s Office reported. The investigation also led to the recovery of a stolen Hyundai Sonata.

Interrogations with Kurlin and Kizer helped detectives expose a wider circle of individuals purportedly linked to several shooting incidents, some of which had not been reported before, stated the JSO. The diligent investigation has resolved 11 individual shooting cases, which were all associated with this core group of friends.

As a result, six individuals are now facing charges: Logan Kurlin, 19, Nathan Kizer, 22, Louis Gill, 23 and Jeremiah Simmonds, 18.

They have each been charged with seven counts of attempted murder, in addition to several lesser charges, including the killing of Naomi.

Two others, Darrell Brill, 21, and Hannah Johnson, 16, are charged with two counts of attempted murder and related offenses.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities say more charges could be filed as they continue to examine evidence from the linked shootings.
