Social media celebrates Kate Moss' 'short and sweet, testimony in Johnny Depp's trial

Twitter users reacted to Kate Moss’ lightning testimony in Johnny Depp’s $100million defamation trial, lauding the timeless supermodel for ‘debunking 20 years of gossip’ in just under four minutes in court.

Moss’ brief testimony Wednesday suggests there is a long-lasting mutual appreciation between the 90s ‘it’ couple, when she shut down Heard’s claim that Depp had pushed her while they were on a Jamaica trip.

At issue were allegations raised by Amber Heard, who had previously told the court ‘I thought of Kate Moss and the stairs, then swung at Johnny,’ claiming she feared Depp would push her sister down the stairs during a violent argument.

The decades-old rumor was seemingly put to rest by Moss, who on live video from Gloucestershire, England, said, ‘I had a relationship with him,’ and confirmed she and Depp were a couple from 1994 to 1998.

Moss said she went on a vacation with Depp to the Goldeneye resort in Jamaica, where the rumored attack on her by Depp was said to have occurred. She proceeded to flatly deny it and recounted what she says really happened.

She said: ‘We were leaving the room and Johnny left the room before I did. There had been a rainstorm and as I left the room I slid down the stairs. I hurt my back. And I screamed because I didn’t know what had happened to me and I was in pain.

‘He came running back to help me, carried me to my room and got me medical attention.’

Moss was pressed by Depp’s attorney, Benjamin Chew, who asked, ‘Did Mr. Deep push you in any way down the stairs?’

‘No’ she said, shaking her head from side to side.

‘During the course of the relationship did he ever push you down any stairs?’ Chew insisted.

‘No,’ Moss said again. ‘He never pushed me, kicked me or threw me down any stairs.’

Chew asked Moss why she had decided to testify in support of Depp but an objection by Heard’s lawyer was sustained by the judge.

There was massive built-up anticipation for Moss’s appearance, as the ultra-famously private model rarely discusses her personal life with the media.

The testimony sparked an array of reactions on Twitter, where Moss was branded a ‘model of love’ who came to Depp’s rescue almost 25 years after their relationship ended, and her ‘short but sweet,’ no-nonsense, to-the-point appearance was applauded.

User @lifeisasoundtrack tweeted: ‘Kate Moss: *logs on. You’re a f****** liar and keep my name out your mouth. *Log off. That’s basically what happened.’

According to Heard, there was a rumor that Depp had once done the same thing to Moss and it came to her mind.

Rossana Wright tweeted: Amber Heard will never get over those few seconds of listening to Kate Moss defend Johnny Depp and destroy all of her lies. #AmberHeardlsAnAbuser #JusticeForJohnnyDepp She is still having a jealous meltdown right now, still fidgeting via her body language & facial expressions.

Although succinct,  Moss’ appearance gave Twitter users plenty of material to comment about.

Moss was at the height of her fame when she began her intense relationship with Depp who was a teen idol thanks to his roles in films like Edward Scissorhands.

Both of them were notorious for their drink and drug use and became known as the ‘chicest, druggiest couple in LA.’

Among their favorite hangouts was the Viper Room in Los Angeles, which Depp owned, where they partied with the likes of Jared Leto, Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron.

Moss later said that she ‘cried for years’ over the breakup, after which her drug use escalated and eventually led her to rehab.

‘There’s nobody that’s ever really been able to take care of me. Johnny did for a bit…I believed what he said,’ Moss told Vanity Fair in 2012. ‘Like if I said, ”What do I do?” he’d tell me. And that’s what I missed when I left.

‘I really lost that gauge of somebody I could trust. Nightmare. Years and years of crying. Oh, the tears!’

Depp also admitted that he ‘had never been so emotional about a woman before Moss,’ and that he had been ‘so stupid because [they] had so much going for [their] relationship.’

‘I’m the one who has to take responsibility for what happened. I was difficult to get on with, I let my work get in the way and I didn’t give her the attention I should have done,’ he told HELLO! magazine in 1998.

After the testimony, a source close to Heard said, ‘So Johnny Depp didn’t abuse Kate Moss. That makes him 1 for 2 in the abuse column.

‘But, to date, he’s 0 for 1 in the courtroom on the central issue in this case back when he lost the same exact case in England. And when the jury deliberates over the singular issue in this case – whether Amber Heard can exercise her right of Freedom of Speech – he’ll be 0 for 2, no matter how much his lawyers try to distract and divert the jury’s attention.’

Depp’s forensic psychologist insisted that Amber Heard does suffer from a personality disorder after being recalled to the stand on Wednesday.

Dr. Shannon Curry – an expert witness for Depp – said that there were ‘clear indications’ that Heard was suffering from a personality disorder despite the actress’ own expert denying it.

In her previous testimony Dr. Curry diagnosed Heard with borderline personality disorder and histrionic personality disorder.

Heard called her own forensic psychologist as an expert witness, Dr. Dawn Hughes, who rejected Dr. Curry’s claims and said that Heard was suffering from PTSD.

Dr. Curry said that Dr. Hughes used checklists in her analysis that are ‘not appropriate for forensic settings’ and are ‘easily exploited’.

One example was the checklist given to Heard by Dr. Hughes about PTSD which is the most frequently claimed and feigned’ mental trauma.

According to Dr. Curry, giving Heard a checklist of the symptoms was like ‘teaching (her) all the little nuances to get that diagnosis’

Heard ‘ticked most of the items’ which led to her being diagnosed by Dr. Hughes with PTSD.

Dr. Curry said: ‘A person being evaluated will have a major incentive to benefit the outcome of their case.

‘You always approach examinations with a healthy dose of skepticism.’

Early Wednesday morning, fans continued to wait in long lines to get wristbands for the trial.

They passed the time trying to sleep wrapped up in blankets on the ground, playing cards, or chatting with new friends.

Early arrivals bided their time across the street before rushing across the courthouse lawn to secure a place in line when the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Department finally allowed them on the premises.

Some, still in their sweatpants, did their makeup as 7am approached – the moment when sheriff’s deputies hand out the wristbands that are the fans’ prized tickets into the courtroom.

After all the wristbands are distributed, those who didn’t get in traipse to the back of the courthouse, hoping for the next best thing: a glimpse of Johnny Depp when he arrives for court.
