Wayne Rooney and Fara Williams are set to be honoured by receiving this year’s Legends of Football awards.

The former England stars, who won 297 international caps between them, will be inducted into the Legends of Football Hall of Fame in October following last year’s winners Ian Wright and Emma Hayes.

Rooney and Williams have been chosen as dual award winners to recognise their commitment to playing for their country.

The first Legends of Football award was presented to Wales, Leeds and Juventus icon John Charles in 1997, with Sir Stanley Matthew being honoured the following year and other recipients including Sir Alex Ferguson, David Beckham and Pele.

Over its 27-year history Legends of Football has raised more than £8.5 million for music therapy charity Nordoff and Robbins, which uses the power of music to help people suffering from life-limiting illnesses, disability and social isolation.

‘I’m delighted to receive the Legends of Football award,’ Rooney said. ‘The award has been previously given to some of the biggest names in the game, so to be recognised alongside all of them including some of my teammates, opponents and footballing icons means a lot.’

‘This recognition means a great deal to me,’ Williams added. ‘I am grateful to everyone who has supported me throughout my journey.

‘Music therapy is such a powerful way of allowing people to communicate and express themselves, and I hope any money raised through the event can continue to support their incredible work.’

Legends of Football will honour Fara Williams and Wayne Rooney at a star-studded event on 7th October 2024 at Grosvenor House, London. Tables are available to be booked at
