SpaceX’s Starship’s attempt for a 10th test flight on Monday was called off due to weather conditions, causing the company to cancel the launch from its South Texas site.
This test on Monday evening was an important step for Elon Musk’s ambitious vision to use the Starship to transport astronauts to the moon and eventually reach Mars.
However, in a post shared on X, SpaceX announced, “Standing down from today’s flight test attempt due to weather. The Starship team is determining the next best available opportunity to fly.”
On Sunday, SpaceX had mentioned that the initial attempt was abandoned because of ground-system issues, with plans reset for a new launch window at 7:30 p.m. ET Monday.
The mission on Monday was focused on the spacecraft’s upper stage, intended to carry crew and cargo into space and then return to Earth with a controlled descent into the Gulf of America.
A successful test would mark a step forward in proving the system’s reusability, which is key to Musk’s vision of affordable space travel.
