SAN DIEGO — From web-slingers to pocket monsters, trading cards took over Comic-Con—with Spider-Man making a bold leap into “Magic: The Gathering.”
This year, trading card games drew a huge crowd of longtime players, collectors and curious newcomers.
One of the biggest standouts? Spider-Man is swinging into the world of trading cards.
“Magic: The Gathering” debuted exclusive content that blends its classic gameplay with over 60 years of Spidey storytelling.
From Peter Parker to Miles Morales, web-slinging heroes are crawling into booster packs and landing on game tables everywhere.
Visitors had the opportunity to explore the Daily Bugle, enjoying interactive experiences with themed photo opportunities and complimentary welcome decks designed to teach newcomers the basics.
Pokémon also made its mark with a massive Poké Ball suspended high above the show floor, attracting plenty of attention.
The booth offered fans a trip down memory lane with a Mega Evolution walkthrough that revived beloved characters in a new, engaging format.
“I watched it every day as a kid, so I thought it was cool there’s a whole setup just for Pokémon,” said longtime fan Gabrielle Reynolds.
Another blast from the past making a surprise appearance was “OverPower” a trading card game that originally debuted in the ’90s.
“It reminded me of my childhood,” shared attendee Benjamin Saucedo. “The characters have changed, so it seems they’re giving it a modern twist.”
Saucedo snagged some free cards with his son and said he’s hoping to pass the hobby along.
“I want to relive it, relearn it, and maybe get the kid involved,” he said.
