SIR Keir Starmer last night threatened “further concrete action” if Israel does not abandon its “egregious” plan to take over Gaza.

In a scathing joint statement with French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian PM Mark Carney, the PM escalated pressure on Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Israeli Prime Minister has been cautioned that if a substantial amount of aid is not allowed into Gaza and plans to occupy the area are not abandoned, Britain, Canada, and France “will not hesitate to take further measures, potentially including targeted sanctions.”

The three leaders said: “We will not stand by while the Netanyahu Government pursues these egregious actions.

“Should Israel not stop its renewed military actions and remove restrictions on humanitarian assistance, we will proceed with additional concrete measures in response.

“Israel needs to stop the settlements that are considered illegal and detrimental to the feasibility of a Palestinian state and the safety of both Israelis and Palestinians.”

On Monday nine UN trucks carrying aid were given clearance by Israeli authorities to enter Gaza, where international organisations have warned a famine is imminent.

It’s the first time in 11 weeks supplies have been allowed into the strip.

Sir Keir called Netanyahu’s decision to greenlight limited and “basic” food into the coastal enclave as “wholly inadequate”.

He called the humanitarian crisis “intolerable”, adding “we cannot accept images of hunger, mass hunger”
